10% for ZCAS Workers

ZUFIAW AND ZCAS SIGN 10% SALARY INCREMENT AGREEMENT

Lusaka, April 14, 2025

The Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) has successfully secured a 10% salary increment for employees of the Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies (ZCAS), marking a significant milestone in labour market. The agreement was formally signed at a ceremony held at the ZCAS offices in Lusaka, reaffirming ZUFIAW’s commitment to improving conditions of service for its members.

The conclusion of the negotiations in record time, highlights the dedication of both parties to fostering a motivated and productive workforce. Speaking at the signing ceremony, ZUFIAW General Secretary, Mr. Kasapo Sundrea Kabende, expressed his appreciation for the swift and collaborative efforts that led to this achievement.

“This is a historic moment, as it is the first time an agreement of this nature has been finalized so efficiently. It reflects our unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of our members,” Mr. Kabende stated.

However, he also raised concerns about the Emoluments Commission (EC), emphasizing that the Commission’s influence has curtailed the free collective bargaining process not only at ZCAS but also other government institutions and organs affiliated to ZUFIAW. The mandate of the Commission contradicts the domestic and international laws that promote free collective bargaining between the Employers and the Unions. He affirmed the Union’s commitment to protecting the integrity of the collective bargaining process and most importantly the relevance of the labour movement in Zambia. He has called on the Federations in Zambia (FFTUZ and ZCTU) to champion a Union Indaba that will deal with challenges the Commission has brought about in the last three years.

He further commended the BU Chairperson, Mr. Deluxe Mwansa, and delegation leaders for their professionalism and dedication throughout the negotiation process, which played a crucial role in securing a favorable outcome.

This increment represents a positive step forward in the pursuit of fair wages and improved working conditions for ZCAS employees. Despite the challenges posed by external regulatory frameworks, ZUFIAW remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard the rights and interests of its members.

The union has also called on ZCAS management to strictly enforce the agreement by ensuring that only registered union members benefit from the negotiated improvements. He emphasized that unity and active participation in the union are crucial to securing better conditions of service in the future.

This latest achievement further cements ZUFIAW’s reputation as a leading advocate for workers’ rights in Zambia, demonstrating the power of collective bargaining in fostering equitable and sustainable employment conditions.
